565 Kokea Mixed-Use
A new development built on old values, Kokea 565 is a forward thinking project that takes the old culture of Hawai’i and reapplies it to modern day living. Sustainably designed, operated, and constructed, respect for the land and natural resources were paramount during every stage of building, and these tenants remain after completion. Taking the original meaning of the names for the district our site is located in,which translates as wooded edge, a design employing sustainably harvested wood became the base for construction. Living here mirrors the woods as well, sheltered within yet open to the winds, a place focused on a natural experience, groves and all.
The program for the site also includes commercial space, fronting the promenade and allowing for several levels of varied interaction between shoppers, commuters, residents, or those merely enjoying the promenade. A selection of shops caters to those passing through, while the second level has additional boutiques as well as an exhibition space for displaying speciality artwork, hosting events, or even transforming into additional dining for the restaurant on the third level. Here guests may wine, dine, and enjoy panoramic views of the courtyard, canal, and surrounding neighborhoods; not to mention scattered green spaces bringing ever more natural life to the project.
Supplying the exhibitions and acting as the beating heart of the site are the industrial art complexes, fronting the busier areas of town to both show off their various crafts and diminish the bustle of city life for those living on the site proper. Goods created here may be displayed in the cafes, foyers, or main exhibition hall, and provide a means for the local neighborhood to further its self expression through workshops. One of several ways in which the design speaks to a local culture, and strives to accentuate it.
A progressive neighborhood, with a focus on the environment, Kokea 565 will become a leader of design for the area, setting a standard for future growth in sustainability and a sensitive approach towards community. Aligned with the rail, these amenities are not only a haven for the area but a destination for those all over Honolulu; creating a mix of art, green living, and a more natural home.
